Overview:

The Spotted Congo Puffer is a highly sought-after freshwater pufferfish known for its attractive spotted pattern, intelligent personality, and unusual status as a true freshwater puffer from Africa. Captive bred specimens are especially desirable, offering a more sustainable option and often adapting better to aquarium life.

This species has a rounded body shape with a light brown to yellow-toned base colour covered in dark spots, giving it a distinctive and eye-catching appearance. It is an active and curious fish that quickly becomes a real character in the aquarium, often interacting with its surroundings and watching activity outside the tank.

Care and Feeding:

Spotted Congo Puffers require a mature aquarium with excellent filtration, stable water quality, and plenty of structure such as caves, wood, rocks, and planting for cover and territory. A soft sandy substrate is ideal, as these fish often explore the lower levels of the tank.

They are carnivorous and should be fed a varied diet of meaty foods such as snails, bloodworms, brine shrimp, insect larvae, and other frozen or live foods. Hard-shelled foods like snails are especially important to help wear down their continuously growing teeth.
